The Contract Analyst Programmer (CAP) will provide programming support to assist in the development of Automatic Weather Forecast Services (AWFS) software modules and their implementation on the new computing platform (the System). The CAP is required to take up the following tasks during the contract period

• Enhance the capability of extreme weather prediction in the Automatic Weather Forecast (AWF) portal
• Enhance the ARWF with increased spatial resolution covering the Pearl River Delta, and the addition of forecast locations within the territory
• Enhance the Extended Forecast System (XFS) with enhanced post-processing algorithms for generating probabilistic forecasts and guidance on extreme weather out to 14 days ahead
• Extend the forecast time range of ARWF through the integration of probabilistic forecast products of XFS in the Extended Outlook website
• Set up and conduct integration tests, perform real-time trials, evaluate product availability, and verify performance of the enhanced AWFS products
• Provide nursing service, project reports, documentations and conducting handover with training to staff

• Higher Diploma/Degree holder in Computer Science or equivalent
• At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification working experience
• At least 1 year of working experience as an Analyst Programmer
• Applicant should refer to the Technical Requirements (mandatory and optional) for fulfilling job duties
  • Proficiency in software application development using JavaScript, web programming frameworks and database (MySQL/SQL)
  • Good knowledge and experience in various programming languages and environments, including Linux/UNIX shell scripting and Python
  • Experience in Git and GitLab for software development and version control would be an advantage
• A criminal record check will be required and the offer is subject to the results of the criminal record check
