Duties

  • Support and maintain existing enterprise infrastructure and cloud platforms. This includes taking up the primary administration of the Hyperconverged Infrastructure platform, covering VMware Cloud Foundation, ESXi-based virtual environments, Stretched Clusters, and SAN/vSAN;
  • Drive IT infrastructure projects, site preparation, and data centre relocations while strictly adhering to government security frameworks;
  • Undertake the end-to-end administration of the HCI platform, including capacity planning, lifecycle management and performance tuning to support current demand and planned extension;
  • Administer the procurement of IT hardware, software, licenses and maintenance services for the Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platform; and
  • This role provides long-term operational support. Future contract extensions will be considered based on satisfactory performance.
  • Manage daily system operations, performance monitoring, backups, and Disaster Recovery for mission-critical infrastructure. This role also involves handling critical incidents, performing deep-dive troubleshooting, and applying technical fixes directly without reliance on vendor support. It also includes providing non-office hours support for infrastructure maintenance, arranged on a roster basis (compensated by time off in lieu);
  • Coordinate end-to-end infrastructure projects, system integrations, software release cycles, and routine patch management. Candidates are expected to assess operational strategies, develop execution plans, and take full ownership of tasks. This includes an unwavering commitment to ensuring tasks are delivered on time, demonstrating a high degree of flexibility, dedication, and a results-oriented approach to meet critical project milestones;
  • Ensure compliance with Government IT security policies (e.g., S17, G3) and ISO27001/ISO27701 by facilitating Security Risk Assessments and Audits (SRAA). Alongside this, you will assist the team in drafting comprehensive technical documents, operational procedures, tender specifications, and proposing solutions;
  • Plan and execute the lifecycle management of the HCI platform, including firmware, hardware and VMware software upgrades, and maintain a register of end-of-life/end-of-support components;
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring and right-sizing of virtual resources, and establish proactive monitoring and alerting for early fault detection;
  • Prepare procurement documents (specifications, evaluation criteria, schedules) for hardware, software, licenses and maintenance services, and manage the full procurement lifecycle, including sourcing, quotation/tender evaluation and preparation of award recommendations;
  • Administer contracts with vendors and contractors, including monitoring deliverables and milestones, verifying claims and invoices, and tracking maintenance and support contract renewals and expiries; and
  • Supervise junior staff and perform Quality Assurance on contractor work. Candidates must maintain a high level of accountability by proactively updating management on task progress and risks, ensuring architectural roadmaps align seamlessly with overall business objectives.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related IT discipline, with at least 5 years of post-qualification IT experience. This must include a minimum of 2 years in an Architect, supervisory, or senior technical support role;
  • Solid hands-on experience in VMware enterprise technologies is strictly required, covering VMware Cloud Foundation lifecycle management, stretched clusters and vSAN/SAN administration. Knowledge or exposure to enterprise containerization (e.g., Red Hat OpenShift, K8s/K3s) is preferred. Relevant certifications, such as VMware Certified Advanced Professional, are highly preferred;
  • Project management skills are highly desirable, alongside a basic understanding of networking, Government IT security standards, ISO 27001/27701, and data centre relocation;
  • Candidates should possess an Architect mindset with strong standalone problem-solving skills to resolve operational issues and implement technical fixes independently. A proactive team player who are fast learners and possess a strong sense of responsibility to deliver results on schedule is preferred. A dedicated work ethic and eagerness to explore new technologies (e.g., Red Hat OpenShift, K8s/K3s) is an advantage;
  • Working knowledge of Government procurement procedures is highly preferable, such as experience in preparing tender specifications and evaluation reports; and
  • Good written English for drafting technical documentation and tender documents. Attaining Level 1 in the Use of English paper of the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or an equivalent qualification (e.g., Level 4 or above in HKDSE English Language, or Grade D or above in HKALE Use of English), is preferable. A 10-minute writing test may be arranged before the interview.
  • The job requires the following mandatory skills:
